EXFOLIATION:Chemical peels, Dermabrasion, Dermaplaning.
Exfoliation is removing the outermost layer of the skin getting rid of all the dead, dry and dull skin cell buildup from the surface of the skin to reveal newer, brighter, smoother and firmer skin.
There are two different kinds of exfoliation: chemical and physical. Chemical exfoliation utilizes safe-for-skin acids that break through debris and dead skin on a cellular level. Physical refers to anything with a slightly grainy or abrasive texture used to manually remove buildup.
Chemical Peels can be further broken down into the specific acids that are used. Click here to further explore the different kinds of chemical peels. A chemical peel is a quick way to improve and smooth the texture of your skin, minimize scarring, increasing skin tone, firmness and the penetration of your daily skin care regimen. There is minimal downtime to a peel; however, you may experience quite a bit of skin flaking and peeling for 3 to 4 days depending on the strength of the peel.
You can get a daily home mini chemical peel by using Azani Medical Spa’s AHA Marine Moisture cream, which has glycolic acid 15%. In office glycolic acid chemical peels start at a 30% glycolic acid strength. U
Dermabrasion uses physical means of removing dead cells. Not all dermabrasions are created equal. Flying crystals at high speed and suction can cause broken capillaries and undue skin stress. At Azani Medical Spa we use a safe and effective abrasive pad that vibrates called Vibradermabrasion. Click here to learn more about vibradermabrasion.
Dermaplaning uses the edge of a scalpel. It scrapes off the dead cells as well as the peach fuzz on the face. Click here to learn more about dermaplaning.
All exfoliation treatments are amazing procedures to rejuvenate skin but medical grade skin care products are essential to supplement the rejuvenation and help protect, nourish and hydrate the skin at home on a daily basis. They work hand in hand. Chemical peels, dermabrasion and dermaplaning slough away dead skin cells allowing skin care products to effectively absorb deep into the skin where they need to go to be effective, not just stay on top of dead skin cells. So having regular exfoliation throughout the year will ensure the active ingredients in your skincare can do its job keeping a more youthful and supple appearance.
And donโt forget the sunscreen! SPF sunscreen should be worn every day of the year no matter the temperature outside to prevent or at least slow down future sun damage.
